Motorcycle Racing

Honda maintains a huge presence when it comes to motorbikes, and naturally, they have entered many of their motorbikes into a number of events to prove their worth. Ten years after Honda began making motorcycles in 1949, Honda began putting their motorbikes to the test on the big stage. In 1959 Honda started at the deep end, and entered 5 motorbikes into what was then the most prestigious motorcycle race in the world; the Isle of Man TT race. Wilst Honda were already known for their powerful engines, something wasn’t quite there with the bikes and it took them until 1961 to solve the problem by improving the tuning of their chassis to such an extent that they could enjoy their first Grand Prix victories in the 125 and 250 cc classes.

In 1979 Honda returned to Grand Prix Motorcycle after some time out and got off to a disappointing start with the monocoque-framed, four-stroke NR500. However they really started to excel in 1983 with their two-stoke NS500 which won Hondas first ever 500 cc Grand Prix World Championship. It was the start of something big, and Honda have since gone on to be huge players in the motorcycle racing game winning many prestigious awards.

Grand Prix aside, Honda have also tasted success in Motocross claiming six world championship titles in the Motocross World Championship and a further eight titles in the World Enduro Championship.
